Loreto Church - Mirto

The small church dedicated to the Madonna di Loreto is located in the most extreme point of the town of Mirto in the direction of the Fitalia stream and enjoys an extraordinary panoramic view of the coast, with the Aeolian islands in the background, and inland with all the neighboring municipalities on background. Its construction refers to a fascinating legend. It is said that around 1550 a sailing ship found itself at the mercy of a furious storm and its captain vowed to build a sanctuary to the Madonna del Loreto on the place he could see in the mountains if he and all his crew were saved. The church, with very minimal dimensions, inside houses a Virgin statue to which it is dedicated and a painting of popular workmanship with the same subject.
