Church of the Annunciation or Batia - Tortorici
- Sicilia
The Church of the Annunciation, also known as Batia because the Abbey of the Poor Clares built in 1757 was annexed to it, was closed for worship in 1963. In the 90s it was renovated and today it is home to cultural activities. Inside there are numerous valuable works of art including several paintings and marble sculptures made by the Gagini brothers, among them the Marmoreo group of the Angel Gabriele and the Annunziata and Madonna del Soccorso. Also noteworthy is the marble statue of Santa Margherita, probably from the end of the 15th century, on whose base there is the coat of arms of the Pollicino family. In the past, the Church was famous for the infiorate (sepulchres) that were made in Holy Week.
