Church of San Lorenzo - Frazzanò

The church of San Lorenzo, built in 1555 and enlarged in 1699, represents, after the Mother Church, the main cult building in the historic center of Frazzanò as well as the one most loved by the citizens of this center of the Nebrodi, being named after the countryman Lorenzo il confessor, Basilian monk who lived in the 10th century. The church with three naves and a high bell tower with an onion roof features a superb late Baroque portal in pink San Marco marble with twisted columns and shell scrolls. Inside you can admire various paintings and statues on the side altars, while in the presbytery there is the majestic high altar which in the lower part houses the relics of San Lorenzo. The patron's wooden statue is inserted in a theatrical and superb gilded wooden machine, hidden by a painting that is only removed on the occasion of the town festival.
