Church of Santa Maria di Gesù - Raccuja

The Church of Santa Maria di Gesù is the Mother Church of the town of Raccuja. Its construction dates back to around the 16th century. The exterior of the Church is characterized by the complex richness of the facade, made entirely of finely carved local sandstone. It, embellished with scrolls and pinnacles, presents an architectural layout marked by twin pilasters which outline the parts corresponding to the central and lateral aisles. There are three entrances, two of which, the lateral ones, are surmounted by oval windows. The interior, with three naves, preserves high-quality marble works such as the Annunciata group (patron saint of the village) and the Madonna and Child, works by Giovan Battista Mazzolo from Messina, as well as the sculptor's San Sebastiano collected Rinaldo Bonanno, all works ascribable to the 16th century.
