The Mother Church of Ficarra has Norman origins and dominates one of the three hills on which the historic center is located. Since 1507, with the arrival of the effigy of the Virgin of Gaginian origin, the Sanctuary of Maria SS. Annunziata. The church, which has undergone numerous changes over the centuries, has a Latin cross layout and is externally with the soaring bell tower and the sumptuous apparatus of the sandstone portals. The interior preserves a large number of artistic works. First of all, in addition to the paintings and wooden sculptures, is the set of marble statues of the Gaginian area where the Annunziata of 1507 placed in its sumptuous Baroque chapel, the ciborium and the subsequent sculptures of the Immaculate Conception and Madonna della Neve coming from the ruined church of Santa Maria di Gesù. Just when the church was elevated to a sanctuary, Maria SS. Annunziata has become new patron of the Municipality of Ficarra, supplanting the cult towards San Placido Martire
