La Guardiola

The guardhouse is a spectacular viewpoint located outside the historic center of Piraino at 380 m above sea level in a position overlooking the sea. In ancient times this was a small fortress dating back to the 16th century which served as an observation point. Subsequently, once this was demolished, it became a panoramic point several times modernized and transformed, from the period of the Fascist twenty years where there was a monumental fifth entrance concerning a three-arched portico then demolished, until today with an essential balcony with white balustrades. In the past there was also a cannon that was fired, first during emergencies and then on holidays. From here it is indescribable the beauty of the vision of the stretch of coast that goes from Capo Milazzo to Capo d'Orlando almost as an audience to the spectacle of the Aeolian Islands.
