Mother Church Maria SS. Assunta - Castell'Umberto

The Mother Church of Castell'Umberto, which overlooks Piazza IV Novembre, was built in 1931. The three-nave church is covered with sandstone blocks, worked by Umbertine stonemasons and has two large terraces on the side aisles. Inside you can admire the eleven bells and the statuette of Santa Barbara, from the churches of ancient Castania, a marble bust of the Assunta Madonna, the stained glass window of San Vincenzo Ferreri, patron of the town and a bas-relief depicting a miracle of San Vincenzo. From the ancient Matrix come a crucifix from 1600, the paintings of Santa Lucia, the Martyrdom of San Bartolomeo and the Holy Souls of Purgatory, the baptismal font in red marble of San Marco and the pipe organ of Annibale Lo Bianco dated 1710, the baroque statues of Saint Joseph with Child and of Saints Peter and Paul, the marble group of the Annunciation and the statue of Saint Mary of Jesus, both from the Gaginian school. Also noteworthy is the majestic bell tower, with a pyramid-covered roof covered with majolica and the Assumption of the Virgin, by the Florentine painter Giuseppe Francini, which overlooks the presbytery. The church is today dedicated to Maria SS. Assunta.
