Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie - San Marco d'Alunzio

Erected in the early 15th century and dedicated to the Madonna delle Grazie, it was originally the noble chapel of the Counts Filingeri, annexed to a convent of Augustinian fathers, probably present in San Marco d'Alunzio until the early 1900s. The church houses two sarcophagi : one from 1616 in red San Marco marble which houses the remains of Pietro Filingeri, the other in white Carrara marble from 1481 which houses the remains of Marco Scipione and Vincenzo Filingeri, sons of Count Riccardo. Of particular value, the high relief, present on the lid of the latter sarcophagus, which portrays one of the princes in a supine position with his head resting on embroidered cushions, a long sword on his crossed arms and a lion on his feet. In white marble finely carved in bas-relief, the large arch of the chapel; on the altar, the white marble statue of the Madonna, from the Gaginian school.
