Medieval village of Montalbano Elicona

Established the most beautiful village in Italy on April 5, 2015, Montalbano Elicona is a town in the province of Messina that preserves its ancient history intact. Medieval alleys and alleys that bear witness to the life of the inhabited center are proof of this.

The first evidence of the existence of the village dates back to the 11th century, when it was a state property. In 1232 he turned against Federico II of Svevia, siding with the pope together with other centers. Subsequently it belonged to several feudal lords: to Matteo Palizzi in 1350, to Vinciguerra d'Aragona in 1359, to the De Sidot in 1396, to the Romano Colonna, to the Bonanno in 1587.
